The Oldhams were first off the coach at the Tebay Service station looking as though they were ready to walk up the motorway. They sped up the Roman road instead, to a vast quarry lake at Hardendale Nab. They returned via the Butchers Arms in Crosby Ravensworth. A speedy 16 miles.

Meanwhile the coach then headed along the A685 heading for Newbiggin dropping off firstly, Pat and Steph’s group at Wath who set off across the Moor for Sunbiggin Tarn and the track looping back round Scarside to Orton – about 8 miles.

Three groups started from Newbiggin. Mike James followed the High Dales Way across the Moor to Mason Gill, over to Winderwath Common and then with time to spare a quick visit to Orton Scar and the Monument.10m

Paul’s group crossed the moor to Crosby Garret Fell and then on to Little Asby. They passed through Maison Gill going southwest to Sunbiggin and on to Orton.11m

Stuart also used the Dales Highway to access Ewe Fell Common and Crosby Garret Fell. They returned by Little Asby and then Great Asby.12.5

Mike B’s group started from a very sunny Orton. Going north they paused at Robin Hoods Grave and then had lunch on a bridge crossing a sparkling stream. They eventually reached the Butchers Arms in Crosby Ravensworth, and after a brief stop they returned over Broadfell meeting the other groups as they converged down the wet gully in to Orton.9.5

The coach was conveniently parked outside ‘The George’. All groups managed to get back in time for a drink, and a live musician was there to entertain us. A happy occasion, thanks to you all!
