RAVENSTONEDALE - SEDBERGH 24th OCT 2021

Image
The weather forecast was very accurate – strong winds and intermittent heavy rain -   and on the top of the fells we got just that!   But it didn’t stop six groups leaving the coach at Wath heading in roughly the same direction. Stuart, Mike J, Paul C and Mike B took almost   the same path up West Fell to follow the Dales High Way over Hazellgill Knott and on up to the Calf. They the crossed the Caulders and descended by various routes over Winder and into Sedbergh. It was an excellent walk - in and out of clouds and facing strong winds. The descent through the dark bracken covered fellside into the beautiful town of Sedbergh with its pristine white houses and wet grey slate roofs was a delight. Geoff’s group followed the Langden Beck all the way up Bowderdale to the Calf and then descended beside Cautley Spout to follow the Rawthey to Sedbergh. The Oldhams took to the ridge along the other side of the valley, heading for Hooksey and Randygill Top, going for The Calf and then

NORTH WALES WEEKEND - DOLGELLAU

Image
A recent weekend in North Wales was enjoyed by 10 Club members at HF's Dolserau Hall near Dolgellau. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds close to some great walking country. The weather was lovely on the Friday and Saturday, with low cloud lifting from the tops by lunchtime, and although there were one or two light drizzly showers on the Sunday it remained warm and pleasant. Walks included the Torrent walk of 1.5 hours (handy to do on arrival late afternoon), the heights of Cadair Idris and a number of other walks of varying lengths. DOLWYDDELAN 10th October 2021

Photo from Dawn It was glorious sunshine as the coach pulled into Dolwyddelan and the parties set off on their individual routes. The Oldhams and Geoff’s group headed for Dolwyddelan Castle and over to the far end of the beautiful Roman Bridge valley.   Keith then headed up the remote slopes of Yr Arddu at the western end of the valley to commence the grand circuit of the Moel Meirch – Cribau Ridge which finally ends with Moel Siabod. A grand 13 mile route of panoramic views. Geoff’s group followed a path beyond the wet lands of Llynau Diwaunydd to join the same ridge at Clogwyn Bwlch y Maen and then up over Crib to the summit of Siabod. From here they had the some of the best views in Snowdonia. John G led his group due north in the direct route up Siabod. The forestry paths lead up to the waterfalls and Lyn y Foel. From here they followed the exciting West Ridge up to the summit. Paul took his group north east over the remote undulating open land above the Lledr Valley. The
