RAVENSTONEDALE - SEDBERGH 24th OCT 2021

The weather forecast was very accurate – strong winds and intermittent heavy rain -  and on the top of the fells we got just that!

But it didn’t stop six groups leaving the coach at Wath heading in roughly the same direction. Stuart, Mike J, Paul C and Mike B took almost  the same path up West Fell to follow the Dales High Way over Hazellgill Knott and on up to the Calf. They the crossed the Caulders and descended by various routes over Winder and into Sedbergh.

It was an excellent walk - in and out of clouds and facing strong winds. The descent through the dark bracken covered fellside into the beautiful town of Sedbergh with its pristine white houses and wet grey slate roofs was a delight.

Geoff’s group followed the Langden Beck all the way up Bowderdale to the Calf and then descended beside Cautley Spout to follow the Rawthey to Sedbergh.

The Oldhams took to the ridge along the other side of the valley, heading for Hooksey and Randygill Top, going for The Calf and then descending by White Fell and Castley Wood to Lincoln’s Inn Bridge.

Steve J wandered at will on the ridges and appeared from nowhere on the Calders.

Yvonne and Steph enjoyed the Cautley Spout area and took some beautiful pictures of the glorious autumn colours.

Helen’s group left the coach at The Cross Keys and followed Cautley Beck and the River Rawthey below the Spout to Sedbergh.

It was a very enjoyable day.
