25th October walk cancelled due to storms Austen and Boelo

Due to the forecast of extreme weather at the weekend with two storms approaching the UK in quick succession, it was decided to cancel the walk to Glenridding. Initially, on the advice of the Mountain Rescue, the plan was to swap the Glenridding walk with one to Staveley - a much lower and potentially less risky walk. With the safety of Club members paramount to the committee, the predicted excessively strong gusts at high levels would have been an unnecessary risk to walkers. However it was later judged that not only would the walking conditions be hazardous, but so too both the journey to and from Staveley. So in the interest of safety the decision to cancel the walk completely was taken. The committee planned instead to arrange the Staveley walk for the following week (Sunday 1st November), but only if sufficient members were able to commit to the re-arranged date. Initially there were just 15 members who were able to commit, but as this number  would have resulted in a l...

LLANBERIS - 11th October 2026

Photo: by Geoff Thirty-one walkers took on the challenges of Wales on an absolutely glorious day. They had a brilliant day in Snowdonia, with sunshine throughout, stunning views all round and for those negotiating Crib Goch for the first time, some scary and breathtaking views. A good journey saw all members disembarking at Llanberis at 10.50am, to begin a variety of walks. Keith’s group left the coach in Llanberis with the sun shining brightly and barely a cloud in the sky. With a 16 mile walk and 4,600 ft ascent planned the group were mentally prepared for the challenge. The walk began by taking the Snowdonian Slate trail over the mountains and into Nant Y Betws Valley where a local almost put stop to the plans by telling the group the path was closed. Thankfully he couldn't keep a straight face for long and the walk continued. With breathtaking scenery all around, the group began the ascent of Mynydd Mawr. From the top, the whole of Anglesey was in view, as well as the Snow...

DOLGELLAU WEEKEND - 2nd / 5th October 2026

Photo: by Paul C Members of Southport Fell Walking Club enjoyed a long and lovely weekend at Dolserau Hall, an HF property near Dolgellau. Enjoying unseasonally fine weather on the Saturday Paul C, Chris, Pam B & Steph managed to take their fair share of beautiful photos. On arrival on the Friday Paul C took a small group round the Torrent Walk - a short walk of an hour up one side of a tumbling stream and down the other, and back for a cream tea after checking in. Then on Saturday they took advantage of the weather forecast to tackle Cadair Idris, the highest mountain in the area, via the Pony Path. The weather could not have been better, warm, sunny and no wind. They could have done without the ewe on the summit trying to get into everyone's lunch packs though. On the descent they decided to take advantage of the clear conditions to branch west to Craig-las for spectacular views of Barmouth, across Cardigan Bay to the Llyn peninsular, and of southern Snowdonia. O...
