DOLGELLAU WEEKEND - 2nd - 5th October 2026

Members of Southport Fell Walking Club enjoyed a long and lovely weekend at Dolserau Hall, an HF property near Dolgellau. Enjoying unseasonally fine weather on the Saturday Paul C, Chris, Pam B & Steph managed to take their fair share of beautiful photos.

On arrival on the Friday Paul C took a small group round the Torrent Walk - a short walk of an hour up one side of a tumbling stream and down the other, and back for a cream tea after checking in. Then on Saturday they took advantage of the weather forecast to tackle Cadair Idris, the highest mountain in the area, via the Pony Path. The weather could not have been better, warm, sunny and no wind. They could have done without the ewe on the summit trying to get into everyone's lunch packs though. On the descent they decided to take advantage of the clear conditions to branch west to Craig-las for spectacular views of Barmouth, across Cardigan Bay to the Llyn peninsular, and of southern Snowdonia. Only 8 miles but a fairly tough 2,950 ft of ascent.

Steph meanwhile, with Pat, Lorna, Chris and Sue, went on a stunning 6 mile coastal walk. They drove to Ytwyn and followed the King Charles III path to Aberdovey. The weather was beautiful, a very slight breeze and lovely and warm, with clear sunny skies. The whole of Wales appeared to be walking their dogs along the same route! In Aberdovey they had a mooch around and a coffee before returning to Tywyn by train.

Sunday was cloudier with drizzle from time to time, but Paul's group chose to do a 13 mile route from the hotel via Llanfachreth and the Precipice Walk.

Steph’s group visited the Corris Craft Centre and Machynlleth, where almost everything was closed! So we decided to cut our losses and drove to Dolgellau for the afternoon. On the way home Pat and I visited the National Trust property of Erddig near Wrexham.

With rain setting in on Monday morning most members planned to make their way home directly, but Ken, Lorraine and Paul decided to brave the conditions to explore a 6 mile route around Llynnau Cregennan, which looked so inviting when looking down on the Saturday, and was very wet and windy on Monday.
