DOLWYDDELAN 10th October 2021

Photo from Dawn

It was glorious sunshine as the coach pulled into Dolwyddelan and the parties set off on their individual routes.

The Oldhams and Geoff’s group headed for Dolwyddelan Castle and over to the far end of the beautiful Roman Bridge valley.  Keith then headed up the remote slopes of Yr Arddu at the western end of the valley to commence the grand circuit of the Moel Meirch – Cribau Ridge which finally ends with Moel Siabod. A grand 13 mile route of panoramic views.

Geoff’s group followed a path beyond the wet lands of Llynau Diwaunydd to join the same ridge at Clogwyn Bwlch y Maen and then up over Crib to the summit of Siabod. From here they had the some of the best views in Snowdonia.

John G led his group due north in the direct route up Siabod. The forestry paths lead up to the waterfalls and Lyn y Foel. From here they followed the exciting West Ridge up to the summit.

Paul took his group north east over the remote undulating open land above the Lledr Valley. They descended to cross the Llugwy at the Ugly House and then follow devious paths and mining tracks in the forestry above the Swallow Falls.

Stuart and Ele went south from Dolwyddelan up Bwlch y Groes and over to Penmachno. They returned to Betws using some very muddy forestry paths to cross the Lledr valley at Gethin’s Viaduct.

Mike led his small group on the Clogwyn Llwyd path to Pont Cyfyng, close below Siabod with glorious views of the Llugwy valley. They crossed the river at the Ugly House and followed it with rocky river scenery all the way to Betws.

Steve J walked from Capel Curig into the Eastern Carneddau and roamed on Pen Llithrig y Wrach seeing no more than five people all day.

The journey did seem a long way but it was no further than the northern Lakes. When the weather and scenery was so beautiful it was very well worth it. Mark’s driving skills excelled with his close manoeuvring through Llanrwst. Thank you Mark.

Mike
