GLENRIDDING 8th June 2025

It was a pretty good day for a walk in the Lakes....well at least at low level. Up higher the temperature dropped and coats, hats and gloves were the order of the day for a short while.

There were five led walks and three private ones.

Mike and Martin’s group followed Grisedale Beck all the way up the stunningly beautiful valley to Grisedale Tarn – achieved by all except Mike and Martin who stood guard at the Ruthwaite Lodge!  A very satisfied party returned down the valley, and from Lanty’s Tarn descended the 250 steps to the Travellers’ Rest for a well-earned drink. Good company and beautiful scenery. 9/10 miles and 1800 ft.

Paul took his group 10 miles and 2,500 ft (with a descent of 3,500 ft)!! But an excellent walk was enjoyed by all of the group, with the weather so much better than expected. They completed all of their planned walk with their objective being High Street.

The Oldham's had a slight change of plan, altering their starting point. Following the change their walk began at the Kirkstone Inn, taking in Stony Cove Pike, Thornthwaite Crag, High Street, The Knott, Rest Dodd, Brock Crags, and Angletarn Crags. A great day was had by all with outstanding views in all directions. 13 miles and 3,000 ft ascent completed with time for a couple of pub stops on the way back to the coach.

Geoff and his group of eleven keen walkers tackled a classic Lake District route today: up Helvellyn via Striding Edge, down Swirral Edge, with a rewarding detour to Catstye Cam. Conditions were ideal—dry underfoot with clear views across the ridges. Striding Edge demanded focus but was manageable, and Swirral Edge offered a smoother descent. Catstye Cam’s summit added a quieter, scenic bonus to the route. No injuries, no falls—just a solid day in the fells. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a walk with a challenge.

Pat took her small party of ladies 6.5 miles with an ascent of around 800 ft, on a steady valley walk on good paths, and with only a short stretch on the main road. They alighted at Brothers Water Inn with their objective being Patterdale and Lanty's Tarn.

John and Debbie walked from Bridgend to Boredale and Sandwick before returning to Glenridding via the Lakeshore Path.

Stuart and John went 11.5 miles and 1,500 ft with Suzy and Alison setting off from Patterdale and making for the Angletarn Pikes.

Thanks to Mike Birkby for all of his past hard work on the Blog and for handing it over seamlessly to me (with some extra much needed help on the technical side of it from his son Nick). I now realise how many photos such a small group can take!!! I apologize for any errors, omissions or oversights, but I'm new at this!!!

Thanks to all of this photographers, namely Chris, Mike B, Eric, Pam, Nancy, Damo, Geoff, Karen, Mike K, Dawn, Pam, Pam B and Stuart. Phew did anyone not take photos??? But all of you keep snapping!
