INGLETON 2nd January 2022

Ingleborough – the first walk of the year and it was a good omen. We had sunshine and rain, clouds and wind, fast rivers and spectacular falls, caves and sloppy mud, and slippery stiles and dodgy gates - all the elements of good walk!

Two parties, the Oldham group and Paul’s group left the coach at Clapham, heading for Ingleborough. The Oldhams crossed Little Ingleborough to the summit and followed the ridge down Simon and Park Fells to Chapel le Dale. They returned down Twistleton valley to the Falls - the only hitch in their 16 mile trek was the Old Hall Inn had not yet opened.

Paul’s group headed up past Gaping Gill and over Little Ingleborough. As they descended to Fell Lane the leader slipped and fell – no injury just a lot of mud and slight loss of dignity. Neither did they imagine the Beezley Stepping Stones would be completely under water.

Anne’s group also started from Clapham to follow the bridleway beside the Old Road past Newby Cote - a hazardous journey of numerous slippery wobbly stiles.

Each of the other groups departed from Ingleton. Stuart and Ele’s party and Gerry’s party headed in vaguely the same direction and met up on the Tarbary Track above Keldhead Scar. They enjoyed the fearsome Pot Holes beside the track and finally Yordas Cave with its stream and waterfall. An exhausting trail across the slopes of Braida Garth Scar ended in the spectacular Beezley Falls.

Mike and Pat led their group up to Twistle Scar with its spectacular views. They  returned by Beezley Falls.

John took his group up Ewes Top and along Scales Moor to Chapel Dale. They returned along the Roman Road to Beezley Falls.

Geoff and Mike followed a similar route in reverse.

Clearly Beezley Falls was a popular venue - and rightly so and inevitably they feature well in the photographs.

Thanks to the photographers who captured the day so beautifully:
