KETTLEWELL TO MALHAM 7th Nov 2021

As the coach headed up Wharfdale, Paul’s group was the first to leave at Threshfield. They were heading for Skirethorn and a long trail over the Moor to Lainger House. From there they could descend to Malham visiting the Gorge just in time to see the climbers high up on the crags.

Mike and Pat’s group left the coach at Kilnsey to use Mastiles Lane as it wound its way over High Long Ridge and down to Gordale Bridge and the Cove.

At Skirefare Bridge John’s group followed the river to ascend the discreet Gore Gill which led on to High Linseed and then down to the Tarn. From here they descended along the Pennine Way through the Cove.

Mike C’s group followed a similar route but deviated over the moors to explore some of the early industrial sites and unusual rock formations?

Finally three groups departed from Kettlewell. Ian and Gerry used the Monks Road from Arncliffe – a high level trail round the back of Littondale.

Stuart Crossed Old Cote Moor - down to Arncliffe and then crossed the moor over to Great Close Hill near the Tarn to descend by the PW through Cove.

The Oldhams had also started at Kettlewell. They crossed to Arncliffe and then used Cote Gill to access the moorland of Darnbrook Fell. From here they headed for High Trent House and into Malham.

Meanwhile Helen and Anne’s group and Mike’s group were treated to a coach trip round to Malham. They had to stop at Grassington for Mark’s essential coach driver’s break so they had a cup of coffee there. Resuming the journey, Anne and Helen eventually left the coach at Airton to follow a leisurely trail into Malham. At 12 ! noon Mike’s party started for the Cove, up to the Tarn and descended by Trougate to the Goredale Scar. To finish the walk they were entertained by display from a group of walkers wild swimming in Janet’s Foss. Good job Janet wasn’t around!
