Mungrisedale to Keswick 30th March 2025
What a beautiful spring day – glorious sunshine with a very cold wind on the tops.
Five groups
left the coach at Mungrisedale, knowing that they were in for a distance walk
with some big fells to cross.
Paul’s group
started with the ascent of nearby Souther Fell, crossing Scales Fell to
Blencathra and descending by Derwent Folds for Keswick. 10 m
The Oldham
card spoke plainly with the ominous warning of ‘a tough climb up Raven Crags
and five Wainwrights to follow’ and a return to Keswick by the Cumbria Way. 13m
Stuart and
John followed the winding Glenderamackin to Whitehorse Bent and through to
Mungrisedale Common, across to Skiddaw House and then along Lonsdale Crags to descend
by Mallen Dodd. 12 m
Steve roamed
over to Bannerdale, Mungrisedale Common and Burnt Horse and descended by
Lonsdale Fell and white Beck to Keswick. 10m
Four groups
started from Threlkeld.
Suzy and
Jenny headed for Wescoe making Lonsdale Fell their target and returned by the
Cumbria Way. 9m
Geoff led
his group up Halls Fell Ridge to Blencathra and returned by the Field Centre
Path. 10m
Mike took
his group past Derwent Folds Cottage, followed Glenderaterra Beck to the mines
and then returned through Brundholme Woods. 8m
Alan and
Edwina followed a similar route but through Blencathra Centre across to Derwent
Folds and up the ridge to Latrigg. 6m
And finally
– from Keswick - Pat and Steph’s group followed the Portinscale, Brandelhow,
Manesty path to Grange and used the Keswick bus service to return.7m
All groups
returned with time to enjoy the hospitality of a very busy Keswick with
families enjoying Mother’s Day celebrations.
Thank you to
the photographers who showed great restraint on such a beautiful day! Jenny, the Oldhams, Geoff, Alan, Stuart, Cris,
Eric, Mike, Anne and Steve.
