BRAITHWAITE to KESWICK 29th July 2022
Braithwaite
31st July 2022
The weather
was beautiful and it was like a Bank Holiday on the fells and in Keswick.
Paul and
Eve’s group were first off the coach at the ‘White Horse’ Scales to follow the
river Glenderamackin to Threlkeld and Keswick.
From
Braithwaite two groups, one led by Mike J and the other by Pat and Steph headed
for the popular Cat Bells. After they had recovered from the surprising
steepness of this ‘little’ fell they enjoyed classic calendar views of
Derwentwater. They descended from that very busy summit by slightly different
routes to follow the favoured Cumbria Way back to Keswick
Ian’s group
used the steep Sleet Hause path from Stair to reach Causey Pike. They descended
by Rigg Beck to Little Town and then the Cumbria Way.
Starting
from Powter How, Stuart and Ele’s group ascended Beck Stones Gill to Barf and
Lord’s Seat. Heading south they worked their way through Comb Plantation in the
Winlatter Forest and down to Braithwaite.
Mike’s group
followed up the same Gill to Barf and Lord’s Seat and then dropped down through
Thornthwaite Forest dodging the mountain bikers with a death wish. The
highlight of the day was the choc ice on Portinscale Bridge.
Anne and
Helen followed the Braithwaite river path to Stair and Skelgill.
Steve J
followed Coledale Beck up to Craig Hill and descended by the Outside ridge.
Alan and
Edwina explored Barrow, Rolling End Farm and Skelgill.
Not quite
sure where the Oldhams went but they only did 16 miles of their planned 17
miles !
Of the 47
walkers on the coach 40 of them crossed the Portinscale Bridge.
A wonderful
day’s walking.
