ILKLEY 22nd May 2022

With the possibility of congestion in the Keswick area due to the Keswick Mountain Festival - Ilkley was suggested as an alternative . Not everyone’s first choice but what a good day’s walking it turned out to be – light sunshine and rolling Yorkshire Dales.

There were seven walks planned. A much reduced Oldham group was first off the coach at Draughton to approach the Moor by the Dales Way. The highlight of their walk was the unfortunate disintegration of Howie’s boots – only redeemed by the imaginative use of spare laces.

Geoff and Mike C’s group, and Mike B’s group left the coach at Addingham. Geoff went south heading for Rombald's Moor, the highest and more secluded part of Ilkley Moor before turning for Ilkley Moor and the town.

Mike B’s group went north crossing the Wharf by the Suspension Bridge and aiming for highest point  - Beamsley Beacon. On their return they crossed Langbar Moor to use the Old Ilkley Bridge.

Paul’s group did the Ilkley Moor Circular, visiting most of the ancient stones and monuments working his way round to the Cow and Calf view point.

Mike J headed for the Twelve Apostles and visited most of the many antiquities on the circuit.

Pat and Steph followed the route up to the Swastika stone and eventually descended to Dales Way beside the River Wharfe.

Stuart started his Millenium Way circuit of the Moor from White Wells Spa pool. His route covered most of the historic features of the Moor and was extended to include Horncliffe Well and Burley Moor.

All walkers returned in time to enjoy the very elegant facilities of the Town. It was a very successful day.

As always - thank you to the photographers for their quality photos.

Claire, Dawn, Geoff, Mike J, Mike B, Pam, Stuart, and Mike K.
