GLENRIDDING 10th April 2022

Chris

It was a perfect spring day for walking – bright sunshine, snow on the tops and cool breeze for speedy walkers.

From the A66 the Oldhams sped off to tick off Great and Little Mells and then follow Aira Beck down to the very popular Aira Force.

At Matterdale End Stuart’s group left the coach aiming for Groove Beck and Randerside to access all the Dodds. They eventually crossed Sticks Pass to descend over Raise to Glenridding.

A very short while afterwards Anne, Helen and Graham left the coach at Thorneythwaite,  heading for Ulcat and devious paths down to Aira Force.

Everyone else was off at Dockray.   Paul’s group headed for the Dodds but descended by Whitestones. With time and energy to spare they added Sheffield Pike to their card.

Both Pat and Steph’s party and Mike’s group had the same target in mind – Glencoyne - but used different paths. Pat followed the lane to Downthwaite and crossed Brown Hills. Mike’s group crossed Swineside Knott and by the time they reached Glencoyne Terrace Pat’s group were already enjoying lunch comfortably ensconced in a sheltered gully. Mike’s group the added Sheffield Pike to their route but on the steep rubble filled gully from Heron Pike they bitterly regretted the addition.

Steve J roamed at will over the Dodds and appears not to have seen a soul, but in his descent to Kepple Cove took a fine photo of the disused Dam.

All returned with time for a drink in Patterdale and a swift journey home.

The crowning glory of the day was that we had 40 walkers on the coach and we made a profit of £2.00 !                         Keep coming back....
