SHAP TO STAVELEY 27th Feb 2022
Please note the change in the Walk Calendar for March 27th 2022.. Details below...
What a
beautiful day ! – bright sunshine and clear blue skies.
There were seven groups to be dropped off at intervals along the A6 Shap to Kendal road.
Inevitably the Oldham group were the first to leave the coach - near Wetsleddale just south of Shap - with the ominous walk card warning ‘ quick pace expected – no short cuts available’! They headed for Great Ladstones, Seat Robert and many more fells before a quick break at the remote Mosedale Cottage (Bothy) - never too inviting. Then on over Grey Crag, down to Sadgill, over Steel End and down to Kentmere.
Further down
the A6 Paul led his group from Hucks Bridge, down to Ashstead and over to
Bannisdale Bridge. From here he crossed Long Sleddale to ascend Brunt Fell and
down into Staveley
Stuart also
started on the east side of the A6 walking down to Selside and then crossed by
Garnett Bridge. From here they crossed the fell to Potter Tarn and Gurnal Dubbs
and down to Spy Crag above Staveley.
Mike and
Pat’s group left the coach at Bannisdale Bridge to walk down past the Plough to
Garnett Bridge. From here they crossed Potter Fells to Potter Tarn and Gurnal
Dubbs. They then then descended through the fields to Staveley.
Mike B’s
group headed up the Long Sleddale river-path from Garnett Bridge to Lads Howe
where they crossed by Skeggles Water to Kentmere, descending by High House and
Low House.
Anne and
Helen left the coach at Stocks Mill to follow the Dales Way along the River
Kent to Cowan Head and into Staveley.
From
Staveley Simon’s group headed for the Tarns and Dubbs and returned by Hagg Foot
and the Dales Way.
What a great
asset the coach is to our varied Club walks. We can offer seven different walks
from seven different starting points and all come back together for a drink and
a safe drive home. Thanks to the leaders and to our coach drivers.
