Bolton Abbey to Grassington 16th January 2022
It looked as though there was only one place to go to in Yorkshire on Sunday and that was the Bolton Abbey Dales Way. And if you didn’t have a dog you shouldn’t have been there! But it was a delightful area to be walking.Ian and Gerry, Mike J and Pat and Mike B and Huw led their groups along the banks of the Wharfe each with minor diversions at various time on the way.
Ian and
Gerry’s group went up past the waterfalls in the Valley of Desolation but found
the return to the main path quite troublesome. They then crossed Carcliff Top
and descended to the river at Burnsall
Mike’s group
made a minor diversion to check the Craven Arms in Appletreewick and joined
Mike J’s group further along the river.
Mike James’
group had a more prolonged stop at Burnsall.
Stuart’s
group also had problems at waterfall but then they headed up over Simon’s Seat to Dale Head and Trollers Gill beforemworking
their way back to Grassington.
Geoff, Mike
and Barry wandered at will over Simons Seat before returning to the Wharf at
Hebden.
Keith had
planned a wide ranging route over the nearby fells of Hartlington and Langerton
and seemed determined to avoid the Wharfe until the last minute at the Linton
Falls.
To break the
mould Anne, Helen and Graham started at Cracoe and crossed the fells to Thorpe.
From here they too descended to the Linton Falls.
Steve J set
out along the Old Moor Lane from Grassington to explore the distant areas of
Mossdale Scar and Copplestone Gate. Not surprisingly he saw far fewer people there
than along the Wharfe.
