LANGDALE 27th April 2025
Weather wise it was probably the coolest day of the last fortnight and for those who ventured on the higher peaks it was very cold and wet.
First off
the coach at Ambleside were Stuart and John who set off on a 13+ mile route
over Black Crag to Tarn Hows, the wooded valley of Tilberthwaite and into the
top end of Langdale by Blea Tarn.
From Skelwith Bridge Ian's group returned to Black Crag and crossed from the Tarn Hows arae, Yew Tree Farm and Hodge Close to come round through Dale End to Langdale. 10m
It was a
testing day for the Oldhams who had planned, and mainly completed, a 13 mile
circuit of six Wainwrights round the top end of the Langdale valley. And they still
had time for a quick drink in the ODG.
Paul’s group
headed for the Crinkles and found it wet, slippery and cold but achieved their
target.
Geoff’s
large group set off for Pavey Ark. Five members bravely ascended by Jack’s Rake,
finding it ‘quite a challenge’, while the others found the alternative route round
the side ‘just as much a challenge’! But conditions were not good.
Suzy and
Jenny achieved their goal in the ascent of High Raise but found the conditions there
much more demanding than expected.
For the same
reasons Alan abandoned his ascent of Bowfell and returned very carefully.
Steve J reduced
his usual litany of peaks to just Busco Pike and Hell Gill.
From
Elterwater Martin led his group along a very wet Lingmoor Fell ridge to the
sunshine on Side Pike and the excitement of Fat Man’s Squeeze !
From
Skelwith Bridge Pat and Steph took their group through the pastures of Chapel
Stile and Oak Howe and on to a tour of the campsite and luxurious Pods of
Rossett Camp Site near the ODG.
The heights determined the weather conditions but all returned very happily after a good day’s walking.
Thank you to the photographers for their faithful record of these walks; Alan, Clair, Clare, Cris, Eric, Geoff, Mike, Stuart and Steve.
