The weather was miserable for most of the day, with heavy rain and strong winds on the tops. In spite of that, 45 walkers braved the weather in a record number of 13 separate walks.

Groups were dropped off the coach all the way along the Coniston road from Lowick Bridge to Torver and finally in Coniston itself.

Stuart’s and Ian’s groups were first off the coach at Lowick Bridge. They set off in the same direction but by different routes heading for the Cumbria Way. Stuart’s group soon disappeared beyond Kiln Bank and at different times they both passed Beacon Tarn and along the Lakeside Path

Next to leave was Mike B’s group who tortuously reached the Cumbria Way and then ascended Beacon Fell before following along the shore path.

Shortly afterwards Mike J’s group departed to cross the valley and work their way along the Top of Selside.

Pat and Steph left at Water Yeat and by a reverse loop joined same Cumbria Way around Beacon Tarn before heading for the Lake side.

Again, very soon afterwards, Anne and Helen’s group left at Sunny Bank to join this lengthy Cumbrian Pilgrimage.

John G departed at the same bus stop with his sights on the White Pike and White Maiden Ridge and eventually Walna Scar.

Finally, Keith and David left the coach at Torver to cross the moor and quarries to Walna Scar.

A very patient Mark - the Driver – who had almost lost the will to live, headed full speed for Coniston.

At Coniston Geoff and Mike C’s party rushed off to claim, for the sake of a record a couple of lower Wainwrights.

Paul led his brave group up a very wet Coniston Old Man.

Alan and Edwina explored Boulder Valley and revisited the mining remnants Coppermines Valley.

Steve J braved the wind and roamed as ever on the Coniston ridges.

The Oldhams were relentlessly driven round six of the seven peaks by their very stern Leader.

But all returned with some relief to the hospitality of Coniston.

Whatever the weather – it turned out to be a wonderful day for photographs.

Thanks  to Alan, Anne, Chris, Geoff, Mike B, Mike C, Mike J, Mike K and Stuart.
