BETWS Y COED 11th September2022
REMEMBER - THE NEXT WALK - SEPTEMBER 25th is to MALHAM
Details below
As the coach
approached Tal y Cafn to cross the Conway heading for Betws y Coed, the groups
started to get ready for their various departures.
Still able
to walk after completing their mammoth 296 mile walk on the Cambrian Way, the
Oldhams were first off the coach at Dolgarrog. They were heading for Llyn
Cowlyd Reservoir from where they crossed the forested Pen Craig
Gron into Crafnant and then made their way down the Swallow Falls and so to
Betws.
From Trefriw
John took his group along the Crafnant valley past the monument to cross over the ‘heavily
wooded' areas of Lyn y Sarnau and down to Betws.
At
Llanrhychwy, just outside Trefriw, Pat and Steph followed the Fairy Falls - Lynn Geirionydd forest paths and slowly descended to the Llugwy and
into Betws.
Stuart’s
group also headed for Llyn Geirionydd but turned for Castell y Gwynt and then
on to Rhychwyn to visit the remote St Rhychwyn’s church – thought to be the
oldest church in Wales and still used for occasional services. They eventually
descended into the valley at the Miners’ Bridge.
Mike J took
his group from Betws up to Lyn Elsi. After lunch beside the reservoir, they
descended through the woods to Gethin’s imposing viaduct and bridge and then followed
the paths down to the Fairy Glen and on to Conway Falls.
Mike B’s
group also headed for Lyn Elsi but used an indifferent route – the Jubilee Trail.
They also descended to the River Lledr from where they explored - from the
safety of the opposite side of the river - a dramatically perilous fishermans’
path made of scaffolding.
Helen and
Graham aimed for Fairy Glen via the Beavers Pool and then on to the Conway
Falls at Pandy Mill.
Everyone was back in time to relax in a very busy Betws y Coed and then enjoy a speedy journey home. It was a very good day’s walking.
