The coach sped up the Rylstone/Cracoe valley ready to off drop the groups at their chosen starting points. Stuart was first off the coach at his usual spot – the quaintly named ‘Non- Go-Bye Farm’. He traced his familiar route across Embsay Moor, Embsay Crags, and Embsay and Barden Reservoirs and down to Burnsall on the River Wharfe. They followed the river to their chosen crossing point:   Suspension Bridge or the Stepping Stones ? and then headed up to Hebden. Next off the coach was Mike’s group who followed the Rylestone Fell Ridge with its conspicuous Cross and Obelisk round to Thorpe End. From there the leader led them down the wrong track ! and they were redeemed by Allan who spotted very rough path heading for Burnsall. The path along the river was very busy with walkers just enjoying this beautiful place. From Cracoe, Anne,  Helen and Graham followed their familiar well trodden route to their favourite village – Thorpe. Gerry and Ian’s group left the coac...

HATHERSAGE 14th August 2022

It was clear that it was going to be another very hot day in an area that can be exposed and without tree cover except near Hathersage. All walk leaders stressed the need to take precautions – plenty to drink, sun cream and hats. Stuart’s group were first off the coach at Lady Bower Inn to traverse Stannage Edge, including the Trig Point and Burbage Rocks .They spent some time exploring the Robin Hood’s Cave and achieved some relief from the sun later in the walk as they dropped down into the Hathersage area. Starting from Yorkshire Bridge Inn, Claire and Ange headed for Stannage Edge and Burbage Rocks. They followed the Derwent back to Leadmill Bridge and Hathersage. The rest of the groups started from Hathersage. Mike J   led his team from the town centre up to Burbage Rocks and through the beautiful woodland paths of Padley Gorge, on to Millstone Edge and back to Hathersage. Unfortunately a climbing accident had occurred on the Edge and the Mountain Rescue Team and ...

Braithwaite 31 st July 2022 The weather was beautiful and it was like a Bank Holiday on the fells and in Keswick. Paul and Eve’s group were first off the coach at the ‘White Horse’ Scales to follow the river Glenderamackin to Threlkeld and Keswick. From Braithwaite two groups, one led by Mike J and the other by Pat and Steph headed for the popular Cat Bells. After they had recovered from the surprising steepness of this ‘little’ fell they enjoyed classic calendar views of Derwentwater. They descended from that very busy summit by slightly different routes to follow the favoured Cumbria Way back to Keswick Ian’s group used the steep Sleet Hause path from Stair to reach Causey Pike. They descended by Rigg Beck to Little Town and then the Cumbria Way. Starting from Powter How, Stuart and Ele’s group ascended Beck Stones Gill to Barf and Lord’s Seat. Heading south they worked their way through Comb Plantation in the Winlatter Forest and down to Braithwaite. Mike’s group ...
