GLENRIDDING 26th September 2021

 Glenridding 26th Sept 2021

Photo from Rick

By the time the coach had reached the top of the Kirkstone we knew that some groups were going to get wet.

At the Kirkstone Inn, Paul and Stuart’s parties left the coach and headed into wet and windy conditions. Paul led off up the threatening Red Screes to follow the Bakestone, Dove and Hart Crags Ridge. In the thick mist they located the Hartsop Ridge and with some relief descended to Bridge End and so to Glenridding.

In similar conditions, Stuart headed in the opposite direction up St Raven Edge for Stoney Cove Pike. They followed the Thornthwaite Crag - High Street circuit round to the Knott and Angle Tarns and finally Bordale.

Mike’s group were next off the coach at Sykeside. They crossed the valley to ascend Dovedale passing the lovely waterfalls. Beyond the falls they tackled the steep fellside to reach the Hartsop Ridge. It was a strenuous challenge but was finally achieved! Later they were overtaken by Paul’s group who were heading down for Bridge End.

The Oldham’s objective of the day was to tidy up a few outlying Wainwrights on the north eastern side of Ullswater that Claire had not yet ticked off..a modest 13 miles and 3,700’.

To their surprise they passed Ian’s party as they ascended Bordale. Ian and Gerry’s group were heading for Place Fell, and crossed High Dodd and Sleet Fells on their way down to the Lakeside Path.

Also on the eastern side were Pat’s group who had started at Hartsop - heading up to Boredale Hause and over to Beda Fell. They then dropped down to Sandwick Bay and back along the Lakeside Path.

Anne and Graham walked from Bridge End over to Patterdale, over to Lanty’s Tarn – looking like a hippo mud bath - and then over to Glenridding.

Steve J made frustrating forays into both Patterdale and Glenridding and returned relatively satisfied.

Those who avoided the higher peaks certainly enjoyed the milder conditions, but all had a good day’s walking.
