KESWICK 27th October 2019

We were owed a good one and we got it - blue skies, sunshine, glorious views - the Lake District at its best.
Three groups got off the coach at Wythburn.  The Oldhams headed for Helvellyn where the first snow of the winter had settled.  They then went on to do Whiteside and Raise and were heading for the Dodds when Dawn called a halt and decided that was a step too far, so they came down Sticks Pass and found a lower level route back to Keswick.
Geoff and Mike Carr's group and Stu and Ele's group both climbed up to Harrop Tarn and on to Blea Tarn and then down to Watendlath.  Geoff's party returned via Ashness Bridge and the Great Wood, while Stuart's group added on Walla Crag in their walk back to Keswick.
Three groups got off at Bridge End.

Anne and Helen's party followed a variety of paths through Smaithwaite,  Shaw Bank, Nest Brow and Spring Wood.  They managed to negotiate their way through path closures in the area and met a very chatty farmer who was pleased to have a captive audience.

Paul Cutner's group went up Sticks Pass to do the Dodds, descended to Wainthwaite and then by St Johns in the Vale Church and Castlerigg Farm back to Keswick.
Marcia and Pat's group went over High Rigg and had lunch in St John's Churchyard.
The morning service had just finished  and they were warmly welcomed by the vicar and told they were very welcome to eat their butties inside the Church if they wanted.  They then made for Nest Brow and over and round Walla Crag to the sting in the tail - a steep and rocky path down to the Lake and back along the permissive path into the town.
There were two private walks.  Steph and Frances and Yvonne did a circuit of the lake  via Portinscale and the Cumbria Way.  Steve Jones and Huw climbed Catbells.
All in all an excellent day.

Thank you for the Account Marcia

And thank you to photographers who boldly removed their gloves to take these excellent photos.
