The Roaches 21st July 2019
Apologies for the delay - occupied elsewhere!
Dramatic Gritstone Edges; patchworks of lush green fields and
gently wooded river valleys - it was all ours to enjoy on our visit to the
Roaches - once again blessed with fine warm weather and a gentle breeze on the
tops to cool us down.
The Oldhams and Stuart and Ele's group both had strenuous
walks planned. The Oldhams were off the
coach first to go along the Macclesfield Canal and to the summit of the Cloud
with its amazing views.
Then on the Staffordshire Way to Meersbrook and Staffordshire Moorlands Walks into Leek. Stuart's walk went from Rushton Spencer up to Danesbridge, Hangingstone, Lud's Church, Roaches Ridge and Hen Cloud and then via the Tittesworth reservoir and Staffordshire Moorlands Walks back into Leek.

Marcia and Mike's group and Geoff's group both followed
similar routes and throughout the day kept "falling over" one
another. Not literally! After following the Danesway from Rushton
Spencer, they convened at the Micro Brewery at Danesbridge for a celebratory
pint. Then on to Hangingstone - a
dramatic rock just asking for posed photos!
Geoff's group did Lud's Church; Martin showed Marcia and Mike's group the rock cottages, accessed by a steep stone staircase with views of climbers on the crags. Martin kindly gave us a mini lecture on the cottages (we were so pleased to have an expert in our midst) and then it was a short descent before climbing to the top of Hen Cloud. A maze of paths and lanes brought both groups to the Three Horseshoes Inn - a delightful hostelry - and from where we were picked up by the coach.

Paul Cutner chose a different route which involved the
Staffordshire Way above Rutland Reservoir, followed by a circuit of Tittesworth Reservoir before the
group made their way into Leek.
Paul Lovelady did a private walk - getting off at Rushton
Spencer and using paths round the reservoirs back into Leek.
A perfect drive home by Mark; a good day was had by all.
Thank you Marcia
An excellent set of photos from Stuart, Marcia, Mike, Rick and Geoff. They are largely of the same area so they are not precisely sorted.

I am sorry I have had to change the name of the Blog.
Google have developed a new format and the former programme no longer operates.
The original Blog still opens and the photo Albums remain available, but it will not accept any further entries. I am not quite sure where I am going yet, but will continue to blunder on!
